Why the happy prince was happy when he was alive?

Answer:

The Happy Prince is an imaginary and unreal story. The central idea of the story is that love and sacrifice are the most valuable things in the eyes of God. This massage has been presented through “The Happy Prince”.

The Happy Prince was very happy when he was alive. He led a life of luxury and comforts. He lived in the palace of Sans Sauce with his companions. It was a palace of comfort and luxury. In that palace sorrow was not allowed to enter.

In the day time he played with his companions in the Great Hall. Every thing gave him pleasure. He used to play in the garden. He was totally cut-off from the common people and their miserable life. He did not at all know what human misery was. He led a life of isolation. There was a great lofty wall between the Prince and his people.

Every day was the day of enjoyment for him. He led his life in playing, singing and dancing. He did not know the difference between material and real life. He did not know happiness was not pleasure. That’s why he was known as the name of the Happy Prince.

But when he died his statue was fixed on a tall column in the middle of the city. Now he had an opportunity to look and see miserable life of the common people. The happy prince was no longer happy now. His vision was changed now. He felt such a great pain in his leaden heart that his sapphires eyes wept.

The prince told the swallow that it was his courtiers who called him “The Happy Prince”. Indeed he lived a very happy life and rightly called “The Happy Prince”.
